Mission Statement

Friends of DeKalb Animals is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit animal rescue group created by the volunteers of Animal Action Rescue, Inc.

Our goal is to save the lives of at least 50 animals from DeKalb County Animal Services & Enforcement every month. This facility is the county’s animal control facility and as such is not a no-kill facility.

We  work with approved Northern rescue groups in areas where the spay and neuter laws are much stronger. The stronger laws prevent these states from having the animal overpopulation problems that overwhelm us here in the South.

The cost to vet and transport each animal is approximately $175, and all donations are fully tax-deductible.

Our  pre-approved groups search the animals available for rescue on the Petfinder/Adopt a Pet websites for DeKalb Animal Services and then notify us of the animals that they would like to rescue. FODA then adds the animals to others that we are working on for the current month and works to raise the needed funds to vet and transport all of the animals for that month.  All donations that exceed the amount necessary to vet and transport that group of animals goes directly to the next group so you can be assured that your funds are going straight to saving the lives of these animals.

With the help of your donations along with low-cost vetting and transport, your dollars and our effort will give these animals the opportunity to walk out of DeKalb Animal Services to a new life. The alternative for many of them is grim and heartbreaking.
